Prayer is simply talking to God. Our prayer life should not just be a long list of "Lord I would like to have ________". In the well known model prayer, sometimes referred to as the Lord's prayer, Christ taught us HOW to pray. Jesus acknowledged who he was praying to. He told us elsewhere that we should confess or sins, and turn from them. We should always approach God with thanksgiving for what He has done, and with praise for His promises. Finally, we should boldly approach His Throne of Grace with our requests. And it is not necessarily a name it and claim it deal.
The Bible is clear on this subject: God hears and answers prayer. He answers in one of three ways: Yes--Wait--No. We like the yes, but the other two we don't like as well. Prayer is answered in God's timing, and if it is within His will. In my experience i have seen miracles, prolonged life, changes in people, and medical miracles the doctors can't even explain.
Prayer is a two way street. Don't forget to listen. Two of the things that people quit doing when their walk with God isn't where it should be: They stop going to church, and they stop praying, and both of those are needed in order to maintain a walk pleasing to the Lord.
